Movie: Golden Compass

The graphics (especially the CG bear and airships and other vehicles) were beyond description. The whole thing sort of had a Steampunk feel to it. The one thing that really got me was the music and some of the cinematography. Some of the fly-over transitional scenes felt rushed, and I wasn't a big fan of the fades. Also, while the important scenes looked very epic, something was definitely missing. The music seemed too brassy at times, or not brassy enough, or... something. I guess I was expecting Lord of the Rings and got this soundtrack instead.

Speaking of LOTR, we have yet another movie with a scene where Ian McKellen is yelling at someone to "Run" across a bridge. A few shots in that scene definitely reminded me of LOTR... I suspect that it was intentional.
