Post:Rooting Android
From Fozzee.net
Dave asks: Have you thought about rooting your phone? I am considering it for a couple of reasons:
- The CPU in the Droid is underlocked by 250 MHz.
- Custom builds of Android have a couple of really nice features that I'd like to have.
My basic answer is thus:
In general, no. I have yet to find a compelling reason to do so. Virtually every customization I want is either inherent to the system, or available as an app. This is the same reason I haven't upgraded to Android 2.x yet. As of right now, the phone basically just works, in every regard, doing everything I want and then some.
As for the overclocking? I've never found myself waiting on the Moment for anything at all, and I can only imagine that overclocking would suck battery life that I don't have to give. I'm already looking (in vain) for an extended battery that doesn't exist yet.
