Day 1 - Traveling
Thursday, November 8th
Today, we traveled from Omaha, NE (USA) -> Chicago, IL -> Munich, Germany -> Venice, Italy.
Of all our flights, I think I preferred the flight from Chicago to Munich the best. It was a long flight that left Chicago around dinner time, and arrived in Munich the next morning (local time). United did a really great job of making the flight seem like an ordinary evening. Shortly after boarding, they started serving dinner. The dinner was pretty good, for airplane food. I managed to sleep quite a bit, though the flight attendant kept harassing us to move the blankets so they could "verify that our seatbelt were buckled". I'm not totally sure why this matters, but I guess whatever floats their boat. In the "morning", they served a breakfast roll and juice. This little charade pretty well eliminated any jet lag.
Day 2 - Mestre
Friday, November 9th
While waiting for and boarding the flight to Venice, there was a German family (two parents and a young boy of about 4) waiting as well. This kid was sitting in a stroller and screaming his head off; he was flailing his arms and turning all red... Mom was trying to ignore the situation, and dad, looking totally embarrassed, was trying to calm the kid down. Not likely. The best part is that Dad seriously reminded me of the stiff, upright German banker. If I recall, he was wearing a suit.
On the flight into Venice, we sat next to a guy who was going on the Royal Caribbean version of our cruise, leaving a day earlier.
Once we got to Venice, we bought our ACTV (Metro bus system) day passes.
